Spain in August 2011 set a monthly record tourist arrivals in the history of Frontur, begun in 1995, receiving a total of 7,640,819 international tourists, which translates into an annual growth of 9.4% or , 655 thousand tourists more than the same month of 2010. In August of 2011 is noteworthy the positive effect on the volume of arrivals of the event "World Day of Catholic Youth" (JMJ11), especially in the Community of Madrid.
In relation to the home markets of Germany emphasizes recovery and diversification of tourists that explain this increase. The largest contributors in absolute terms were the United Kingdom, Germany, France and the rest of Europe. On the other hand all the main communities of destination, by volume of arrivals were on-year increases, highlighting the Community of Madrid, archipelagos and Valencia.
In January-August 2011, arrived in Spain a total of 39.9 million international tourists, 2.9 million tourists more than the same period of 2010, with a growth of 7.8%.
